How to Conduct a Breathalyzer Test

12 November, 2021

A breathalyzer test checks an individual’s blood alcohol content (BAC), determining the amount of alcohol present in their system. A breathalyzer monitors the amount of alcohol in the exhaled breath of an individual when blown into. Police officers usually use these devices on drivers pulled over, typically because of suspicious or dangerous driving. A BAC of over 0.05% is deemed illegal and is punishable by law. Breathalyzer testing in workplaces perform tests on suspicious employees or random mass testing by the company.

Breathalyzer Tests using BACtrack

A breathalyzer test is easy to set up, given how portable and easy to use the devices are nowadays. After a certified breath tester has made sure the environment is fit for a test, all that’s left to do is turn on the device, wait for it to load, and instruct the individual to blow into the sterile tube/mouthpiece of the device. The results, depending on how efficient the device is, should be ready within a few seconds. BACtrack workplace devices take only 3 seconds to process the results for alcohol usage.

Workplace

Law enforcers pull over drivers suspected of DUI. After a careful assessment of possible suspicious behaviour, movements, and speech, the officer will then have to decide if they need to perform a breathalyzer test or not. It is a serious offence to refuse a breathalyzer test given by the police. Workplace testing, on the other hand, is mostly through random mass testing. Employers can now use machines like the BACtrack workplace breathalyzers to closely monitor alcohol abuse within the workplace. It can drastically help companies provide a safer and more efficient workplace for their employees. BACtrack devices, being portable, can also help with on-site testing, meaning that the employees no longer need to leave work to be tested.

Personal

Nowadays, people have the option to own a personal breathalyzer. Devices like the BACtrack S80 Pro, which you can use with just a press of a button, means that there are no other needed settings and modifications for optimal and accurate testing. Having a BACtrack personal breathalyzer may also help prevent individuals from acquiring DUI charges by allowing them to perform a breathalyzer test on themselves accurately.

You can avoid severe penalties like hefty fines, confiscated licenses, ignition interlocks, impounded vehicles, and possible jail time by having the option to test one’s BAC before going being the wheel. It can be a real difference-maker when deciding whether to drive or take a taxi home.
